Dancer Nelly (Elsa Lekakou) has a knack for getting into trouble, so
time and again she finds herself on the run. But she's also good in
finding people eager to help her - like Markos (Stathis Apostolou), a
professional pickpocket who lives in an abandoned theatre with a gang of
outcasts. Markos and Nelly become a couple and his friends adopt Nelly as
one of theirs. And Nelly soon comes up with an idea to combine her and
Markos' talents, why not do live shows in the streets of the city to
distract the audience and make it easier to steal from them. The costumes
left behind in the theatre pretty much give Nelly a limitless choice of
colourful outfits, and as her partner she chooses Jonas (Foivos
Papadopoulos), who has crossed a crime kingpin and thus has gone into deep
hiding - but if he's dressed up as a woman, nobody would suspect him ...
and this works just fine, and Jonas enjoys his time in drag, too, and soon
wants to be called Barbara. Plus, Nelly and Barbara have definite
chemistry. And then Markos is caught by the police and thrown behind bars,
and with him out of the way, Nelly and Barbara soon become a couple - and
everything's wonderful for a while. But then Markos is released from
prison early and catches Nelly and Barbara pretty much in the act. And
while he quickly re-establishes himself as the gang's alpha dog and
Nelly's boyfriend, he still wants his revenge on Barbara ... A
surprisingly but refreshingly light-footed and at times even ironic crime
drama that loosens up its story with dance routines, colourful costumes
and even a free-ranging little monkey with none of this standing in the
way of the film's dramatic core but rather complementing it. And a
well-structured and nicely flowing script keeps things going while all the
actors remain grounded enough throughout to keep their outcast characters
and resulting character arcs relatable. And all of this adds up to really
cool entertainment.
