After silk-thieves have crashed their own car - with the loot - they
hijack the Mesquiteers' truck ... & the Mesquiteers (Bob
Livingston as Stoney, Crash Corrigan as Tucson, Max Terhune as Lullaby)
with it. Of course the law is in hot pursuit, & they manage to kill
all the gangsterswhile still chasing after the truck, thing is, when the
Mesquiteers stop their car, they believe they belong to the silk thieves
as well, & since they have the intention to invite our heroes to a
necktie party right away, the Mesquiteers have tomake a daring escape ...
In the next town, the Mesquiteers have to stop at a garage, but the
owners (who will later turn out to be part of the silk-racket) immediately
recognize them & want to make a citizen's arrest, which forces the
Mesquiteers to leave the truck & the silk behind & continue the
way on their horses.
Soon they stumble over the truck of professor Irving (Earle Hodgins),
who with his kids Madge (Lynne Roberts) & Tim (Sammy McKim) runs a
medicine show, & the Mesquiteers decide to join him in his show, as a
cover-up.
They needn't have bothered though, since the village Irving's show is
heading for, Cosmopolis, proves to be totally deserted, except for an old
duffer (Hardy Waller), who seems to be totally bonkers ... but little do
they know that the duffer is actually the boss of the silk racket which
has its headquarters right beneath Cosmopolis, & he loses no time to
report them to the police - to collect the reward money on them, to
get rid of them & to have everyone thinking he & his gang are law
abiding citizens.
Somehow the Mesquiteers make a getaway, but are now into more trouble
than ever - they can'T even show their faces in a ghosttown anymore.
Meanwhile, Tim & his dog have made a startling discovery when
following Hardy ... that the silk racket indeed runs its operations
from beneath Cosmopolis ... but Tim is caught, & when the racket
leaves they take the boy with them, with the dog in hot pursuit, which in
turn alarms the Mesquiteers, seeing the dog following the trucks, & a
wild chase Mesquiteers on horses after gangsters in trucks starts.
Guess who wins in the end !
Nothing great, but a nice, well-paced B-Westen that supplies almost an
hour of good entertainment. & a chase trucks versus horses is
something you don't see every day.
