A Screambox exclusive: Charlie's (Aaron Prager) a cannibal - including everything that comew
with the job description, especially when it comes to capturing, torturing
and murdering his victims. He pretty much gets away with it scot free as
well as he's living in the middle of the desert where people are just
expected to get lost, plus the local sheriff (David Vega) is in on his
favourite pastime and covers up his tracks. But Charlie's not just an
emotion-free killing machine, he actually sees something in his latest
victim, Crystal (Austin Judd), and istead of just killing and eating her,
he tries to train her to become a cannibal, just like him - with at best
moderate success. That said though, however much Crystal may detest
Charlie, she encourages him to follow his life-long dream, to become a
stand-up comedian. And against all odds, Charlie's cannibal-themed act
becomes a hit with the audience at the local comedy club - and those that
don't like his show Charlie usually kills and eats. Thing is, the comedy
club owner Carrey (Robert Dunne) can't help but noticing that Charlie's
act is worth its weight in gold - gold he doesn't want to lose should
Charlie ever quit playing his club, so he bars Charlie from the club and
copies his shtick himself, intending to go big - something that doesn't
sit well with Charlie when he finds out ... Well, this is a
movie that sure delivers on the promise of its title, it sure is pretty
funny and pretty sick. But what really maked Cannibal Comedian is
that it's more than just keeping the promise of its title, it's not just
amusingly sick but also features some nice character work and the story
actually has some heart to it - packed into a not exactly wholesome plot
though. And add to that some relatable performances that go beyond horror
clichés and a directorial effort as savvy in shockers as in comedy and
you've got yourself a pretty entertaining piece of movie - that might not
be for everybody due to its subject matter, but those inclined are almost
sure to love it.
