Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the English countryside: A young
American tourist who calls herself Lucy (Lowri Watts-Joyce) has sprained
her ankle during a hike and thus asks for help and assistance at the next
farm she happens to pass. And Terry (Jeffrey Charles Richards), retired
farmer and fellow American, is not only happy to help her with her ankle,
he also invites her to food and drinks - drinks that are spiked though,
and while she's out he masturbates over her limp body ... to again be the
perfect gentleman the next morning though. So no big damage done ... until
she drugs him back, ties him up, and reveals that she knows about his
past, when he was known as Rudolf Tannhäuser and has not only
"worked" at the Auschwitz concentration camp in World War II but
has been one of the main butchers there, going so far as to kill newborns
without breaking a sweat. But now it's payback time, as Lucy is working
for Amelia Kaminska (Rula Lenska), a woman who has lost her baby sister to
Tannhäuser back in the day, and has spent the last 60 years contemplating
revenge, and Lucy can be as ruthless as Tannhäuser has been back in the
day. Thing is, Tannhäuser still has a few tricks up his sleeve ... A
pretty cool revenge thriller that really reduces the genre-immanent
cat-and-mouse story down to the bone, but thanks to an engaging script
gets away with it still, finding just the right balance between suspense
and sheer violence, and that's really more story based than going for
spectacle - with the movie's underlying tension profiting from it
immensely. And the beautiful but brooding outdoors setting as well as a
solid cast (with veteran Rula Lenska deserving special praise) naturally
work in the film's favour, making this one pretty cool watch.
