Brothers Adam (Derek Nelson) and Michael (Luke Aquilina) are excited to
bring their new girlfriends, Erin (Hannaj Bang Bendz) and Sarah (Antonia
Whillans) respectively, to their parents' home to meet their parents
(Jamie B. Chambers, Debbie Sheridan) and their sister Margret (Marta
Svetek). Now sure, the parents live in a mansion in the middle of nowhere
and are a bit eccentric, especially when it comes to their obsession with
hunting, but by and large their first dinner together goes fairly well -
until the two girls notice their wine has been drugged - but when they
notice it's already too late, and before you know it they find themselves
in the mansion's basement, tied to chairs, and Michael is in the process
of torturing Sarah with Michael watching on with delight. But that's not
just for shits and giggles, they want to get the girls' blood boiling with
adrenaline - to then kill them and siphon their blood to sell it to sick
fucks worldwide at premium prices. Thing is, once Michael is called away
for a minute, Erin manages to free herself, then she beats Adam to a pulp,
frees Sarah, kills Michael upon his return, then the two girls free all
the other prisoners and try to make an escape. An escape that doesn't get
very far though as Erin is caught by surprise by Margret. And Margret soon
finds out how Erin could have bested her two brothers, she has been
abducted as a kid and tortured for 15 years straight before brutally
killing her captors, and her blood's almost pure adrenaline, so much so
that drinking it undiluted would kill one. Finding that out though gives
Margret an idea, why not launch a human manhunt with the girls as prey in
honour of their rich guest and wannabe-manhunter Wilson (Niko Foster),
who's happy to pay any price for this adventure. It seems like an uneven
fight, but by that point, Erin has a lot of pent-up rage inside her, and
without her medication she only knows one way to let off steam ... Ok,
the premise of this film is a bit silly, and there's never any explanation
given where Erin has learned to fight as well, as rage is one thing,
technique a whole other. But that's really nitpicking as while watching
the movie these question never pops up, the whole thing's just that tight,
an action/horror hybrid filled to the brim with shocks and suspense on the
one side, pretty brutal fights and chases on the other, with a very
relentless attitude towards all of it. And Hannah Bang Bendz really comes
across convincingly as badass broad and effortlessly carries the film,
supported by a solid ensemble - and all of this adds up to rather
excellent genre entertainment.
