Hope (Isabella Bobadilla), Ben (Brendan Goshay) and Shawn (Tanner
Kongdara), location scouts for eccentrlic director Kevin (Benjamin L.
Newmark), are tasked to find a creepy cabin in the woods on the quick -
but they're still on the look-out after nightfall for a next day shoot
when they happen upon just the place. And the cabin's caretaker (John
Fantasia) is easily (though expensively) persuaded to turn a blind eye to
what they're doing for a couple of days, too, so mission accomplished.
Thing is, our heroes do witness a bunch of men and women in clown masks
loitering in the vicinity, which is a bit unsettling, plus the caretaker
has told them about the locals not liking strangers - but hey, it's
probably just kids who are pranking them. At least that's what Kevin
insists on when he arrives. Thing is, when he goes to confront the clowns,
he's killed in cold blood. Naturally our heroes lock themselves into the
cabin to keep the clowns out - but the clowns, being locals, might just
know a few secret ways into the place ...
A found footage survival thriller that ... well, actually
lacks any and all reason to be shot found footage-style - but that said,
this film doesn't use the approach as a short-cut but actually does go for
cinematic camerawork, proper editing and the like and keeps its shaky
camerawork to an absolute minimum, using classic suspense filmmaking
methods instead. And a directorial effort that makes great use of its
limited locations and a ssolid cast only help to make this a really cool
genre trip that definitely deserves a watch.
