Somewhere in Turkey, circa 330 AD: When kind-hearted bishop Nicholas
stumbles upon a sad girl, and gives her an object he has carved out of
wood to brighten her mood. And seeing the change he has made in her, she
decides to brighten the mood of all children far and wide with his
wood-carven toys - which is a much more draining task than he first
thought, so after a while he and his trusted horse are pretty much out of
steam. But then they reach the North Pole and make a discovery that's
bound to change their (and everyone else's) lives ... Basically,
this is a really cute Christmas story, one that easily brings across its
plot without any dialogue or narration, and one that's heavy on
atmosphere, with art that has an unmistakably picture-book quality to it,
and the somewhat limited animation only matches that feel. And this look
only helps the short to exude a certain kind of magic that just goes
really well with the topic of the movie and that's bound to touch even
Christmas-cynics among the audience.
