Coles (Ricky Burchell) is a very successful attorney - who really
doesn't mind too much of justice or morals as long as he wins the case.
And that he has a secret affair with district attorney Leila (HAnnah
Brake), a woman he often faces in court, only rounds out his persona. One
day, Coles takes on the case of Galloway (Chad Paetznick), a cop accused
of stealing evidence just because his friend, hip hop producer Feylon X
(Lil' Flip) asks him to, and he wins that case, too ... and then Feylon X
is murdered, and detectives Hutchingson (Alfred Lamar) and Bryers (Kelsey
Delemar) cite him as a person of interest, and he suddenly realizes due to
his profession he's largely surrounded by (at least potential) criminals,
and the only people he can trust are his driver and best friend Nathan
(Marcus Lucas II) and hacker Rani (Kennedy Mullins), while even Leila and
one of the investigating cops turn on him. Nevertheless, he and his
friends uncover a conspiracy with nightclub owner Mantreaux (Swifty McVay)
at the center of it. Problem is, some conspiracy theories just don't like
to be uncovered ... Now this one's not the re-invention of the
wheel, but nevertheless a very thriller/murder mystery firmly set in the
grey zones of justice and for that not always necessarily shying away from
morally questonable decisions (with often equally questionable outcomes) -
and this is what makes this film work, as it's not just a cookie
cutter story but a complex genre piece managing to surprise the audience
throughout. And that. coupled with an elegant direction that doesn't
shy away from the occasional nastiness, makes this a pretty cool watch
actually.
