Our two heroes (Fred Vogel, Allen Peters) are men who have no set of morals, no feeling of righteousness or at least lawfulness - as best evidenced by the naked firl whom they have tied up in their basement to torture and smear with shit, while sawing her boyfriend's body apart right next door. And they're really proud of this and of all their deeds, otherwise they wouldn't film them. So they go around, beating a hitchhiker (Alexa Iris) half to death, creating utter chaos at a supermarket, torturing and killing twins (Aaron LaBonte, Ben LaBonte) just to find out whether one can feel what happens to the other, and ultimately inviting two prostitutes (Erika Risovich, Randi Stubbs) to their abode for more than just sex ...

Now one thing's for sure, August Underground is for acquired tastes, as it revels in its atrocities, made all the more shocking by its intentionally amateurish camerawork, poor tape quality and cheap looks. And the film doesn't even attempt to make its leads at least somewhat likeable. The outcome is of course torture porn at its purest, the story has no redeeming values or the like - and yet it's a film that's so disturbing it's likely to stay with you for quite a while, and watching the movie one can't shake the feeling that this was the exact intention of filmmaker Fred Vogel. As I said, a film for acquired tastes, but if you're into that sort of thing, then it's a film that hits you right where it hurst.
