Your new movie The After Dark
- in a few words, what's it about, and what can you tell us about your
character in it?
Jack is a good guy, he wants to earn Dax’s love and trust, he
falls for a vamp from another clan and he’ll do anything to
protect her! What did you draw upon to bring your
character to life, and how much Danny Saxton can we find in Jack? I definitely drew on my love for punk music and experience being a part
of a venue and a rock'n'roll community. Also I wear my heart on my
sleeve, so a love story is always fun to bring to life! I think I can
relate to Jack a lot actually, I’m the youngest in my family with 3
older siblings, and I can understand that feeling of wanting to be seen
and earn love from my elders! How
did you get involved with the project in the first place?
Tom and I go back almost 20 years running around Hollywood
together in the music and film scene. It’s been amazing to see
him continue to expand his art form and be so influential in the
horror genre, I was beyond honored when he called to invite me
to play this role. To
what extent could you identify with
The After Dark's
approach to the vampire genre? I think vampires are competitive by nature, they need to
feed and when blood is your meal you’ll have to fight for it.
So having a punk rock clan that is a bit more open-minded and
evolved versus a more traditional clan just felt brilliant.
What can you tell us about
The After Dark's
director Tom Devlin, and what was your collaboration like?
Tom is a great person, talented and even through the blood and
guts there’s a massive beating heart, and it shows in his work
and how he works with aspiring artists and performers. We can go
years without seeing each other, we’re all busy, but when we do
see each other immediately the brotherhood is there. I love the guy. A
few words about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere? Great people, everyone was a believer. I just remember how cold it was.
Some of those night shoots were so cold, and when Ashley Ballou and I had our
epic kill and kiss in the rain, that was so cold but so worth it! Any
future projects you'd like to share? I’m always busy creatively, I’m producing and
directing video content in the music industry, I’m also
planning to record a new album, and hoping to continue my
on-screen work also. What got you into
acting in the first place, and did you receive any formal training on the
subject? I went to a school in Minneapolis called the Academy of Film
& Television before I moved to Los Angeles. I’ve been
featured in a handful of national commercials and small roles.
What can you tell us about your filmwork prior
to The After Dark? I was in another film that Tommy and Lola Devlin produced
and directed called The Legend of the Sandsquatch. I have
written music for films like National Lampoon’s Cattle Call
and Godzilla. How
would you describe yourself as an actor, and some of your techniques to
bring your characters to life?

I think I am versatile, as a stage actor in high school I could
be considered a character actor, but through commercial and film
work I think I can play the funny character, the love interest,
or the villain. Actors (and indeed
actresses) who inspire you?
I love how Jim Carrey and Robin Williams could be the
funny guy and also be the inspiring voice of reason. Those 2 are
legends. Your favourite movies? I have to mention
Willow, the original not this reboot
crap! The magical vibe, the heart, the fight for good, and the
music! ...
and of course, films you really deplore?
Any reboot is really killing me. Footloose, Roadhouse, are
you kidding me? Leave the classics alone! Your website,
social media, whatever else? @dannsaxton Anything else you're dying
to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? Everyone involved in this film has a huge heart, it was
amazing to see this group come together and create something
like this together. Also how rad that Lars Frederiksen from Rancid
is in the film, incredible project! Thanks
for the interview!
