Lister (Craig Charles) is unhappy about only having one arm (see last
episode Epideme), so the
other Red Dwarfers come up with an idea to get him another arm, using
robot Kryten's (Robert Llewellyn) nanobots ... tiny little (well, nano)
robots that can turn everything into everything else. Thing is, the
nanobots are on Red Dwarf, & the crew hasn't seen Red Dwarf for 2
seasons but tried to pursue it in their shuttle Starbug ... & now they
discover that Red Dwarf has actually been taken over by the nanobots &
turned inside out: Most of the ship - including ship computer Holly
(Norman Lovett) - has been turned into a meteorite & left to flow in
the galaxy, while the nanobots have built a nano version of Red Dwarf that
has spent the last 2 years in Lister's laundry basket.
Somehow, Kryten can force them to not only give Lister an extra arm
(but they overdo it a little, making Lister more than perfect), but also
return Red Dwarf to normal size (they overdo that too, making it way
bigger than it was ...)
Like ever so often in season 7 of Red Dwarf, some good
ideas are sacrificed to bad & pointless storytelling, and the jokes
are few & far between.
