Holly (Norman Lovett), the Red Dwarf's ship-computer, has invented the
holly hop Drive, a drive that san take the Red Dwarf to any place in the
universe in a matter of seconds - which can come in quite handy if you are
3 million years away from earth. However - as usual with Holly's
inventions - the drive doesn't work quite as expected & the Red Dwarf
ends up in a parallel universe, where Red Dwarf's crew - the last human
Lister (Craig Charles), the eafter life hologram Rimmer (Chris Barrie)
& the cat evolved top human form Cat (Danny John Jules) - meet their
opposites, female Lister (Angela Bruce), female Rimmer (Suzanne Bertish)
& Dog (Matthew Devitt) ... & even Holly meets his opposite, Hilly
(Hattie Hayridge, who would wind up to be Holly in seasons 3 to 6).
& while Rimmer can't even get along with a female version of
himself (she is just as sexist towatrds men as he is towards women), the 2
Listers get roaringly drunk & before long land in bed together ...
& the next day, back in his original universe, the male Lister is
pregnant, since in the parallel universe men are bearing children, &
as long as he was there, the laws of nature did apply for him, too.
(However, his pregnancy is never again mentioned in later episodes,
apart from maybe the introduction text at the beginning of season 3's
first episode Backwards).
Some good jokes here, but the whole joke about the parallel universe
where everything is exactly opposite from our universe is milked for more
than it's worth.
