Wannabe actor Josh (Taylor Frey) and his boyfriend, agent Ira (Matt
Dallas), lead a reasonably happy relationship - only reasonably happy as
Ira travels around the country most of the time, and Josh lives pretty
much like a kept man in their beach house between all too rare acting
gigs, and yet he's too proud to ask Ira to help him out, careerwise. This
weekend however they plan to spend together to make up for their time
apart - when an old childhood friend of Ira's, Roger (Rick Cosnett)
invites himself to spend the weekend with them. And that's not enough, he
also brings his girlfriend Lilly (Maggie Geha) along. Now Ira's nervous
about meeting Roger, who he hasn't seen or spoken to in 24 years, and
really tenses up when Roger and Lilly arrive, while Josh immediately falls
for Lilly's charms and they become instant best friends. And it's really
these two who get a party going while there's something in the air between
Ira and Roger, some unresolved story from back in the day. To loosen up
things, Lilly suggests for them all to take molly - which ultimately opens
the floodgates for a deluge of repressed feelings, a deluge that threatens
to sweep away our heroes ... Part romantic comedy, part
character piece, part trippy experience, this film is held together by a
pretty clever script that gives us rounded out characters with proper arcs
and plenty of subtext, all of which resulting in a pretty engaging movie,
carried by a directorial effort subtle enough to give its cast the
necessary air to breathe, but imaginative enough to make the more spaced
out moments tangible, and by a small but solid ensemble that keeps things
relatable at all times. And all of this results in pretty cool
entertainment.
