The American Midwest, a rural area relatively untouched by humankind
and under-investigated as of yet due to its massive size. As a result, the
area might be the home of yet not properly discovered beasts that might
have their roots entirely in mythology or might actually be the real deal,
beasts like Bigfoot
or ... the Dog Man (and this documentary makes it very clear
that some Bigfoot-sightings
might actually be Dog Man-sightings and vice versa. But more so than
investigating the Dog Man's roots in both mythology and biology, this is a
collection of eye witness accounts of encounters of Midwestern locals with
the beast, encounters of an absolutely chilling nature ... Now
of course, whether you believe any of the eye witness accounts is entirely
up to you, but what works for the movie is its horror-savvy directorial
approach that includes special effects and atmospheric filmmaking that
make the threat palpable, while research-wise Seth Breedlove and Heather
Moser have clearly done their homework, as the film never once just tries
to convince the audience of the existance of the Dog Man but presents the
viewer with many an explanation for the phenomenon, some more likely than
others, making this, no matter one's personal thoughts on the subject, a
very interesting and engaging documentary.
