Two friends (Jim Aal, Master W) decide to do 'shrooms one afternoon,
and not just any 'shrooms but particularly powerful ones, those you can
only take a particular (small) amount of to not completely blow your top.
And it's not that our heroes don't know the risk, they simply lack the
scales to get the amount right ... and the interest to actually follow
instructions. So after partaking, they awake the next day, covered in
blood, with no memory but a camera full of footage - footage of them
torturing, murdering and dismembering a woman (Ska) ...
Now there's no two ways about it, Das Geheimnis der
Teufelspilze is a pretty sick movie (and intentionally so), especially
since it's very explicit in its violence and overdoes it in terms of blood
- but what makes it something different from your usual blood-and-guts
flick is its very light-hearted approach that despite all the torture and
dismemberment gives it a purely comedic edge, which is also reflected in
the almost moronic yet relatable lead characters who pretty much invite
the audience to not take any of the goings-on at all seriously. Now that
said, if splatter movies are not at all your thing there's little chance
you'll enjoy this one, but if you have a dark and maybe slightly sick
sense of humour, this one is sure worth a chuckle or three.
