Thirty years ago, Sheriff Daltry (Dan Kyle) and two of his deputies
(Rochelle Muzquiz, Patrick D. Green) wanted to bury Jason Voorhees (also
Dan Kyle) near Camp Crystal Lake - and they didn't survive it. Nowadays,
Daltry's son Pete Daltry (Kyle Vahan) is sheriff, and he and Deputy Eve
(Anna Campbell) are keeping the area quiet, with Camp Crystal Lake being
fenced off from the public. But then three prisoners (Lisa Sorenson,
Jennie Vaughn, Elizabeth Garrett) break out of a nearby prison, and think
it's a good idea to climb over the fence and hide out at Camp Crystal
Lake, waiting for their pick-up (Evelyn Gail) - who's of course the first
who's killed, as under the influence of his dead mother (Alyxandria
McCormack, voiced by Kristina Haddad), who occasionally walks around in
her headless state, Jason has come to life again, and he wastes no time
when it comes to killing. Assisting two marshals (Jerry Bell jr, Jason
Reynolds) tracking the girls, Sheriff Pete and Deputy Eve go over the
fence as well, but they find the girls only in a slaughtered state, and
soon realize it's them who are the hunted, and Jason isn't one to die easy
if you don't know how to kill him ... Adrienne King returns as Alice
Hardy from the original Friday the
13th and Friday the 13th Part 2, Amy Steel from Part 2 makes
a voice appearance here as Dr. Ginny Field. As far as fanfilms
go, it might not get much better than this, as in all, production values,
storytelling, directorial effort, and originality even, Jason Rising
beats at least some of the sequels by quite a bit. The result is a pretty
tense slasher that goes beyond just following formula and uses the source
material merely as a basis rather than a source of endless homage, and
features pretty cool cinematography and sound design to elevate it above
the fanfilm realm. And the result is a well-crafted movie with an original
story that can stand on its own as a low budget genre movie.
