Ever since the death of her mother (Laurene Landon), Anne (Sadie Katz)
has had troubles to reality - so much so that she has become a threat to
her husband (Anthony W. Preston) and young son (Pressly James Crosby) and
has been given limited visitation rights by court order, even though both
love her very much. Anne is aware of all of this and seeking help, but
neither her doctor (Ron Russell) nor her psychiatrist (Kim Marie Austin)
nor her reiki healer (Denise Milfort), and by the by Anne comes to the
conclusion she must be possessed by a demon, one she has possibly
inherited from her mother. She asks Father Geoffrey (Vernon Wells), a
priest of her trust, for advice - and quite honestly an exorcism -, but
since Father Geoffrey has recently left the church in disgrace, his means
are only limited, and most of all he can't perform no exprcism being
excommunicated. So Anne rents a motel room to perform an exorcism on
herself - but that's easier said than done, given the demon (Victoria De
Mare, voiced by Jim Towns) is not only very real, but much more powerful
and sneaky that she could have ever expected ... Now that's not
a combination one hears very often, an exorcism movie about female
empowerment. And accordingly, the film's lead Sadie Katz, who has also
conceived the film's story together with director Jim Towns, is the
powerhouse of this movie, bringing her full emotional range to bring her
well fleshed out character to life. And she's certainly helped by a strong
supporting cast and, probably more importantly, a genre savvy directorial
effort by Towns, who has turned into what's basically a slowburn horror
into an atmospheric suspense piece - and a film that's almost certainly
ring true with a dedicated horror audience and beyond,
