Adam's (Lucas DeNies) madly in love with Allie (Veronica Rozler), so
much so that he wants to propose to her. Thing is, there's her father
Mitchell (Patrick Regan), who hates the guts out of him. Still, Adam would
do anything for her, so he accompanies her to her family's forest lodge
for 4th of July to hopefully get on the good side of Mitchell. But not
only is Mitchell less likely to cut his maybe son-in-law any slack than
ever, there's also an flock of aliens on the prowl in the forest who by
the by take over Allie's whole family - Mitchell, his trophy wife Marilyn
(Jennie Russo), Allie's sister Jade (Gabrielle Nunzio), her boyfriend
Brent (Donovan Gale) and her stoner cousin Ty (Joe Cappelli) - and have
chosen her as the new host body for the alien queen (Hillary
Schmatolla-Brooks). And suddenly, mild-mannered Adam sees himself forced
to fight for the love of his life, with the only one in his corner being
bumbling gouvernment agent Owens (Stephanie Ward) ... Ok, so
this movie doesn't exactly re-invent the creature feature subgenre or even
add much to its by now well-worn formula - but that said, the film's also
tons of fun, for one while telling its story straight it doesn't take
itself too seriously for even one moment, tells its story at a pretty
decent pace and sets all its scares and jokes at all the right moments.
True, Big Brood might not be an intellectual masterpiece, but that
said, it's a quite exhilarating watch and should make a near-perfect party
movie.
