Just married, Charlotta Austin & big-game hunter Lance Fuller spend their first night at their home
with Spanky the gorilla caged up in the cellar. But at night Spanky
escapes from his cage, instinctively drawn to Austin whom he doesn't
attack, he just touches her tenderly. Her husband, misinterpreting the situation
(or maybe not, could it have been jealousy ?), shoots the ape. On the next
day, Austin is hypnotized & tells of her former life - as an ape.
This storyline, though, is temporarily dropped as the couple goes to
Africa & we get a travelogue-tour via clumsily incorporated stock
footage. It is not until a pair of Indian tigers escape & kill some
people that the film regains any speed again, with Fuller being the only
man experienced enough to hunt them down. He succeeds, but during the
proceedings, his wife gets abducted by some gorillas, reclaiming her as
one of their own.
Since it is scripted by Ed Wood, you might have guessed a) this one
is somewhat outrageous, & b) there are at least some allusions to
angora sweaters woven into the script. You are of course right on both
accounts (even though Ron Ormonds earlier Untamed Mistress beats
this one by a length in pure outrageousness). Still, the film is not
without flaws, above all the extensive Africa-travelogue-subplot which does slow
down the proceedings considerably & the stock footage is used in a
highly unimaginative way while not fitting in all that well, thus
filling the movie with
tiresome clichés where storytelling would have been in place. The tigers, on the other hand, do work very well here,
since the two of them are beautiful animals, & their scenes
were shot for this movie specifically, so there's even some interaction with the actual characters (well, their stunt-doubles most
probably), instead of more spliced in stock footage.
