After a terrorist threat, the Australian gouvernment issued a travel
warning for Bali, an island paradise that pretty much thrives on tourism.
Australian filmmaker Jamie Wilson (who has visited Bali quite frequently
before) and his buddy Zev Howley (who hasn't) saw this pretty much as an
inspiration to go to Bali, inspite of the warning, and see how unsafe it
really is for tourists, to with their own eyes and also through
experiences other tourists share learn how dangerous Balis really is -
coming up with a few surprise facts in stark contrast to all the
sensationalistic media reports ... On the surface level, this
doesn't seem like much, a bit of travelogue, some interviews, even bits of
real life comedy - and sure, the thing flows nicely but seems a bit
mundane ... until you put it into context of the terrorist fear the media
spread that was readily picked up by Australian gouvernment that chose to
go with the flow rather than search for the truth, and suddenly this film
becomes a statement. And one that comes across as quite as powerful as
it's made very unexcitedly and without any kind of hyperbole. And beyond
all that, the film aslo manages to properly entertain, making it a fine
watch indeed.
