It was a disappointingly normal, almost boring day at work for Dana
(Thais Blume), and then on her way home, someone (Josean Bengoetxea) tries
to rape her - and it's really more luck than anything that she gets a hold
of a pen which she manages to stick into his neck to ward him off. Then
still traumatized but also with adrenaline kicking in, she does a number
on his neck with her pen, slashing it wide open, and deadly so - and then
makes an unseen getaway. Thing is, back home she learns she wasn't raped
by just anyone but a serial rapist who was only recently released from
prison waaay before his time. Thing is, there others like him, serial
rapists that is, who didn't do all their time and might now pose a threat
to the female half of society. And this gives Dana an idea: Why not check
all these men out, and if they fall back to their old ways and she catches
them red-handed, punish them accordingly? Now this is not a
film for the squeamish, the rape (or attempted rape) scenes are all as
uncomfortable to watch as they ought to be, and plenty of blood is spilt.
But at the same time this is also a quite powerful movie about women
re-taking control when justice has failed, and not as revenge but more
like self-defense. Thing though, this is not a mere message movie,
hammering its statement home with a sledgehammer, but all of this is
packed into an entertaining thriller story that manages to keep one at the
edge of one's seat throughout, that even allows the occasional sight gag,
and Thais Blume sure has the right charisma and physicality to fill her
role and do her bit to make this a pretty awesome watch.
