A Screambox exclusive:
Father Javier (Pablo Ragoni) has travelled his country as an exorcist
on his own for years, and his dedication to his vocation has grown
worrying to those around him, especially since he seems to have gone down
a rabbit hole and is now convinced all cases of demonic possession are
connected, and those possessed are actually housing the embryos of demonic
cretures. Especially his mentor father Roman (Jorge Prado) is worried that
father Javier is slowly losing his mind over his job. Of course, then
father Javier turns into a spider like being before Javier's very eyes and
tries to kill him,. and if it wasn't for the timely intervention of demon
hunters father Marcos (Gastón Ricaud) and sister Helena (Sabrina Macchi)
who kill the creature, Javier would have been a goner. Marcos and Helena
insist they haven't found Javier but he has found them, but they offer him
their services all the same. And soon enough, when they run into possessed
father Gabriel (Aurustin Rittano), who confirms to them that Javier's
suspicions are entirely true before turning on them, it becomes clear that
Javier needs all the help that he can get as he's on the road to hell on
earth ...
An in the best way possible deeply disturbing piece of
exorcism cinema, this is not a film that remains on the spiritual level
for too long but soon goes into the visceral and the grotesque - and
frankly, the effects work that comes with that is first rate, and entirely
on the practical side. And while the storytelling as such might be a bit
confusing as it jumps back and forward between different levels of reality
and isn't strictly linear, an atmosphere-heavy directorial effort with a
predilection for the macabre and a (fittingly) total lack of irony carries
the film quite beautifully, making this one awesome piece of horror
cinema.
