Chloe (Kimberly Laferriere) and Jack (Rogan Christopher) have come to
Miami Beach to spend their belated honeymoon - but really more to fix
their no longer perfect relationship. The whole stay seems to be doomed
from the start when they party with another couple, Wendy (Janet Porter)
and Wayne (Christian McKenna), who as it turn out are in the swinging
lifestyle and try to seduce them. Then though, out of nowhere they get
their hands on a shitload of drugs, and decide to take some to get closer
to one another - which basically leads to a very weird night with many a
blackout ... and still they decide to take more. Eventually they meet
Wayne and learn that Wendy has gone missing - only to later find her dead
body under their bed. Memory slowly returns to them that they have killed
her, in a way that involved a bit of cannibalism. Now that's bad enough,
worse is that Wayne eventually stops by their room, and they know it's
only a matter of time until he will stumble upon dead Wendy ... Now
this sure is an unusual movie - it starts out grounded enough as a
relationship drama to eventually become a bit of a trip movie ... before
drifting off into very visceral horror, but horror of the very
unpredictable kind, especially since the film's still also drug trip and
couple therapy still, just in a very mean way - and the whole thing works
just great, thanks to a solid ensemble, a clever script that also manages
to capture the irony of it all, and a directorial effort that seems to
effortlessly roll with the punches. And while true, this is not a movie
for everyone, it's pretty great genre entertainment still.
