Snavely (W.C. Fields) is gold-digging up in Alaska, where he also runs
a farm with his wife (Rosemary Theby). Through all the hardships he has to
go through, he however never gets tired of warning of the threats of
alcohol in a song (and the irony is intended) - and he also blames the
fact that his son Chester (George Chandler) was thrown into prison for
stealing bonds on alcohol. Then the son returns from prison, and mum and
dad Snavely welcome him with open arms - until they learn that he has
brought neither bonds nor money made from them, then they throw him out
into the cold in his pajamas ... So-so parody of Alaska-set
dramas that does feature a few good oneliners and some W.C. Fields-style
absurdity, and Fields' intentional hamming-it-up is rather hilarious, but
in all it lacks a good story or at least interesting situation to carry
its plot.
