J. Effington Bellweather (W.C. Fields) is a man on the run for multiple
charges (including eating spaghetti in public and spitting into the gulf
stream), but that doesn't keep him from picking up the wife (Shirley Grey)
of the hotel detective (John Dunsmuir) of the place he's staying at. Even
though hewould have had time to finish the entire course though the police
caught up with him though, Bellweather is not able to hit a single ball
due among other things to his incompetent caddy (Al Wood), floating
wrapping paper, and even a cake - and when he's finally able to take a
shot, he is handcuffed by the cops and the understandably angry hotel
detective. Ok short comedy but despite a few good laughs
nothing too great, basically because W.C. Fields has not found his beloved
cranky onscreen persona yet and his character remains relatively flat amid
all the chaos he is creating. The golf routine was later reenacted in
Fields' feature You're Telling Me!.
