On a hike through the woods collecting mushrooms, an old man (Terry
Reilly) happens upon an old, abandoned doll, and picking it up it turns
into a snake that's not exactly friendly. This all might have to do with
the untimely death of a young girl (Pamela Stanford in a childhoot
photograph), but that's up to interpretation ... ... and that
said, in a traditional way this film doesn't make much sense,
there's exactly nothing explained away, the viewer's invited to make up
their own story, and the whole thing invariable chooses atmosphere over
storytelling while playing with imagery from Italian horrors of the 1970s
and 80s, something the score's also reminiscent of. And thanks to a
visually complex and genre-savvy directorial effort, this comes to
fruitition, making this one a very impressive riddle rolled into a
cinematic poem that's well worth a watch.
