On their honeymoon, Lord Sutton (Nick Nicholson) takes his wife Eleanor
(Irina Kramer) to Manila, to stay at his friend and businesspartner's
place - only to learn he has died, but his son Lin (Mark Gosálvez)
promises to offer them the same hospitality his father would have ... and
it becomes clear from the get-go that he has set his sights on Eleanor.
Good thing then that Lord Sutton has to go out on business for days on end
(caused by the death of his friend), giving Lin ample opportunity to get
friendly with Eleanor - and it doesn't take Lin long to shag her, then he
takes her to his "atelier" - and makes her his prostitute,
loaning her out to other men. Eleanor is disgusted by this at first, but
soon finds pleasure in it, so he goes to the atelier even behind Lin's
back to do a bit of whoring - to the dismay of Lin, who has fallen in love
with her. The thing about this is though that Lin is actually paid by Lord
Sutton to do what he does, and Lord Sutton even watches his wife's
exploits in the atelier via hidden camera. Eventually, Eleanor finds out
about everything, which makes her feel disgusted by Lin, but fall in love
with her husband all the more. Eventually, Eleanor pays off the debt Lin
had with her husband, and upon this, Lord Sutton decides they have relied
on Lin's hospitality long enough, and they move on for a cruise in the
Chinese sea - and their skipper seems to be cut out to be Eleanor's next
lover. House of Pleasure is pretty much a typical latter
day Joe D'Amato softsex movie, and one of the many he filmed in the
Philippines, too: Gone is the sense of adventure that permeated his sex
movies in the 1970's (especially his Black
Emanuelle movies), replaced by some mock-Asian philosophy and
some made up sex-games that don't make a lot of sense, narratively. All is
held together by some weak dialogue and wooden performances - but at least
lots of nudity and sex scenes, and leading lady Irina Kramer is at least
quite a looker. Certainly not one of D'Amato's better movies, but he has
made way worse, too.
