For years, bumbling journalists and bickering couple Jen (Georgia
Chris) and Mark (Joe Davison) have made a living mostly making up stories
for tabloid magazines, so when a mass murder happens right around the
corner from them that's somehow tied into a 20 year long unsolved killing
spree, they see their big chance, and soon they pick up clues that the
police has so far ignored, like that the killer is most probably wearing
clown make up when doing his killings. With that assumption, they soon can
pinpoint the killer to a certain circus and learn from one of the circus
performers (Norberto Santiago) about Gurdy the clown (Jack Amos), who was
deeply in love with a fellow performer (Leslie Crytzer), but who then
snapped when he was wronged. The circus folks don't know his present
whereabouts, but know he has a daughterk, Christine (Raine Brown), who has
been given up for adoption back when. But now Gurdy has picked up her
trail, and who knows what he might do to her. So Jen and Mark pick up
Christine's trail as well, figuring she might need saving. What they
haven't taken into account is that she might be just as insane and
homicidal as her dad ...
Now granted, 100 Tears isn't exactly breaking new
ground when it comes to serialkiller cinema, and was probably never
intended to, but it's really good at what it does, to tell a stringent
story with plenty of surprises, its fair share of suspense and jump
scares, and some excellently executed gore effects that are definitely
nothing for the weak at heart. Plus, the killer clown at its center is
really creepy, and that he's not indestructible only heightens his appeal.
What really makes the film though is its lead couple that feel very real
in all their bickering and only average heroism, and Georgia Chris and Joe
Davison bring just the right chemistry to their roles. So in all, this is
really good genre entertainment - but you definitely need to be able to
stomach quite some amount of blood and guts.
