Martha (Eline Schumacher) and Félix (Benjamin Ramon) are the children
of a serialkiller in the 1990s who never got caught. He has long since
died, but Félix honours his father's tradition by brutally killing women
every now and again - something Martha's well aware of. She in the
meantime works a lowly job at a company and is bullied by her co-workers,
and sometimes raped even, all with the perfect knowledge of her boss
Jérôme who just refuses to intervene. She at first refuses to tell this
to her brother, but he notices that something is wrong with his sister and
kidnaps Julie (Hélène Moor), a woman she has had a social media feud
with, for Martha to keep as her slave - or punching bag, really. And
having absolute power over Julie gives her just the right level of self
confidence to plot revenge on her co-workers - especially since she has
found out one of them has impregnated her ... Now this is by no
means an easy film, as it pretty much paints its own hell and refuses to
give the audience a protagonist to clearly relate to let alone identify
with. And that all the violence in the movie is shown in a very cold way
doesn't make it any easier to digest - but watching the movie one can't
shake the feeling that to make an easily digestible movie couldn't have
been further from the filmmakers' minds. This is a mean and hard-hitting
piece, one that's made to shock and made to stay with one for quite a
while after watching - and it's also very well made with a focus on
atmosphere and well played on top of that, and should you be up for
something disturbing, this one's definitely worth a watch.
