Issachar (Maxi Delmelle) and Zabulon (Harpo Guit), two hapless brothers
in their mid-twenties with a tendency to fuck things up but with a very
careless attitude about it, can't believe their luck when their friend
Choukri (Habib Ben Tanfous) lets them use his handgun - but when they use
the gun in their inner city neighbourhood to shoot life pidgeons, they
find themselves on the run from everybody in no time, and in the process
don't only lose the gun but also their prostitute mother Cachemire's
(Claire Bodson) beloved dog. And Cachemire gives them 24 hours to find the
dog, or she'll throw them out of their apartment - that is of course, if
she isn't evicted from the place first. They soon find a clue to the dog,
it's with one of mum's former clients she has long rejected but he wants
to use the dog to get back into her favours. But knowing where the dog is
and getting him back are two things, and it leads too many absurd scenes,
including the boys being featured dancers in a music video, them joining a
sodomy sex club (with one of them dressed up as a dog), and just general
madness. And that they accidently kill the dog trying to save him doesn't
make things better, nor does cooking the dead animal ... Now
one thing up front, if you're looking for sophisticated, high brow comedy,
don't even try this one, Mother Schmuckers is in tone pretty much a
gross-out version of the Three
Stooges, and is very episodic in storytelling, often choosing
another punchline over narrative elegance, with not all punchlines being
very great. What's the film's saving grace though is its absolute
"anything goes"-mentality, which at times takes the movie into
totally unexpected directions that are hilarious by concept already. And
the other saving grace is despite all their idiocy, the two main
characters remain relatable throughout. That all said, it's certainly not
a film for everybody, but if you aren't grossed out easily, you might as
well give it a chance and find you like it more than expected.
