Scott Cohen wants to become a cyborg, for basically two distinct
reasons, one to have his senses enhanced, and two to live longer, maybe
forever, in a body that doesn't age. So Scott's first step towards
cyborgdom is to have a "North sense" implanted, basically a
device that vibrates every time he faces North, as he figures that will
give him a much better grasp of the world around him. Now this sounds
maybe a tad eccentric, but still harmless enough - but his wife Susanna
Cappellaro takes exception to it, as Scott's new sense is taking over his
life more and more, so much so that she at times feels shut out of his
life - and to come to terms with this, he has started to document Scott's
progress, including all setbacks, and eventually goes so far as to
experiment with cyborgism on herself ... Topic-wise this is
probably one of the wilder documentaries of late - but a cool topic
doesn't yet make a good documentary. That said, Susanna Cappellaro finds
the exactly right approach to her subject matter, delivering a piece with
very little in terms of tech-babble and instead lots of heart, and with an
actual story arc as well as character arcs for herself and her husband,
which is actually rather rare in documentaries. And the result is an
actually pretty compelling film that works on many levels and also manages
to entertain.
