To give his rich wife Geneviève's (Julia Saly) weak heart some rest &
relaxation, Paul (Paul Naschy) moves to his parents home in the country with
her, that is run by old caretaker Maville (Lola Gaos), a sort of substitute
mother for Paul, & her young, wicked niece Julie (Paquita Ondiviela) ... to
whom Paul seems to take an instant liking. Everything goes great for a while,
& Geneviève even seems to get better by the hour ... when, triggered by
some stories about Paul's direct ancestor, the brutal knight Alaric de Marnac (also Paul
Naschy), Geneviève starts seeing things, until eventually one night the knight
himself appears to her & frightens her to death ... but it all was just an
evil plot that Paul has deviced with the help of Julie to get his hands on
Geneviève's money. Eventually Maville finds out though, & confronts
Paul, whom she loves like a son, with her knowledge, only to the next day meet
with an accident, caused by a trip wire Paul has carelessly placed in
her way ... Mireille (Silvia Miró), a mistress of Paul's who was somehow
involved in the whole plan, doesn't fare much better, as Julie brutally axes
her when she asks for her share & her man ... Now it seems, lovebirds
Paul & Julie can live happily ever after, & beofre you know it they are
married ... but what Paul doesn't know is that Julie has a few plans on her
own, & one involves Paul's money, her boyfirend Maurice ... but certainly
not Paul ... & soon Paul meets an accident involving a bathtub & an
electrical heater ... ouch ! But, to give the story its macabre ending, evil
evil knight Alaric just cannot accept that one of his own blood is murdered, &
in the end he & his zombies come to get Julia ... Let's get it
straight, this film - an inheritance thriller in the tradition of Gaslight
or Rebecca, but with zombies tagged on - is not really good, maybe not
even one of Paul Naschy's better movies, but thanks to its very straight forward blend of
sex, horror & violence, paired with a cast of increasingly wicked
characters most of whom just want to get the better of one another at any cost,
this does provide some good entertainment on a trashy level.
