As ship computer Holly (Hattie Hayridge) discovers five black holes
approaching in outer space, the Red Dwarf's crew have to temporarily
abandon ship in 2 shuttles. Unfortunately, the shuttle of Lister (Craig Charles)
& Rimmer (Chris Barrie) is thrown off course by a comet & crashes
onto a planet of permanent snow. Confined to the space of their shuttle,
the two begin to open up to each other (sort of), talking about
everything from food to their first sex, all the while having to burn
everything from books to oney to keep their fire going. But each of them
refrains from burning the one thing that's most valuable to him, in
Rimmer's case a wooden box, the only thing his father left him, in
Lister's case his guitar. It isn't until Lister convinces Rimmer, who is
always the uptight guy, that he actually burned his guitar (it was
actually a sawed-out part of Rimmer's valued box) that Rimmer actually
begins to feel a strong emotional bond between the 2 of them ... at
least until he finds out when they are actually saved.
A very good episode of the series that by & large neglects all
the only reasonably funny supporting characters & puts an emphasis
on the 2 leads & their antagonistic dialogues - which was actually
the initial premise of the series & what made the first season so
great. |
