The crew of the Red Dwarf - the last human Lister (Craig Charles),
the after-death hologram Rimmer (Chris Barrie), the robot Kryten (Robert
Llewellyn) & the cat evolved to human form Cat (Danny John-Jules) -
try to bring their halfwit computer Holly (Hatty Hayridge) back to full
capacity & restore its IQ of 6,000. Unfortunately though, they
overshoot their aim considerably, increasing Holly's IQ to 12,000,
making her omniscient, but rather limiting her lifespan to 3 minutes and
counting, forcing Holly to switch itself off to save resources for
emergencies. Such an emergency occurs when a short time later a White
Hole causes all sorts of temporal anomaly, & while Holly does
calculate a way for them to shoot a planet into the center of the hole,
thus having it collapse, Lister decides to do a similar thing, but by
hand (that is laser beam) as a sort of 3 dimensional pool. After a
6-pack of beer & an amazing trickshot, he succeeds, causing the time
to be turned back before they tried to augment Holla's capacities ... Completely
unexciting & largely unfunny episode (the only funny lines come from
a speaking toaster [David Ross, who was the original Kryten in season
2's episode Kryten] that all the time asks if anybody would like any
toast - it is funnier in the show than on paper), with no real story to
speak of - & even that is incoherently told ! |
