June (Mandahla Rose), Layla (Sterling Victorian), Ellie (Abisha Uhl)
and Gemma (Lily Richards) have rented a vacation home, a nice little
cottage in a small village near Nashville, as the home base for the music
festival they're planning to attend, and also to help Gemma over a recent
break-up. There's just one problem, the place is haunted ... only it
actually isn't, the owners of the cottage Mitchell (Marvin E. West) and
Deedee (Deborah Seidel) only have made this up to attract clientele. Only
then June and Layla see an actual ghost, and while that's not so much a
surprise with Layla, who has been suffering from sleep paralysis and
everything that comes with it for years, June is pretty much immune to all
sorts of superstitions - but has been suffering from a terrible headache
ever since they've gotten here. Now Deedee's quick to help out with hot
chocolate and a séance - but it's when Ellie finds a few human bones in
the backyard that our heroes have to come to grips with the fact that
there's something sinister going on around here, and in one way or the
other Mitchell and Deedee are involved ... A really fun piece
of low budget horror that might not have much to offer in terms of
spectacle, but is brought to life by well fleshed-out interesting and
relatable characters - played by a solid ensemble -, just the right mix
between comedy and drama to actually feel real, and a subtle directorial
effort that gives its actors space to breathe but knows when to put an
emphasis on suspense and atmosphere, all to make this really cool genre
entertainment.
