George (William Thomason) and Cathy (Dorothy Duke) are madly in love,
so they marry - and become your typical boring couple that's totally out
of tune with the shenanigans their friends regard as entertainment,
including heavy drinking, stripping and catfights. But not hanging out
with their pals anymore leaves a hole in their life, a hole they intend to
fill with a child ... but they can't conceive, and when consulting a
doctor (Timothy Farrell), it's found out that it's George's fault. This is
a heavy blow to George and Cathy, but fortunately the Doctor is an
understanding man and suggests artificial insemination ... and wouldn't
you know it, it works. Ok, as a drama and/or an educational
piece, this film sucks, mainly because there is no dramatic build-up for
the whole situation and its resolution, and everything that happens is
given away in the prologue via titlecards anyways (yup, the titlecards
tell the whole story). All that said, the film was never supposed
to be a serious drama or education piece though but an exploitation flick,
which is made the most evident in an extended party scene and glimpses of
lead girl Dorothy Duke's naked body, as well as many suggestive lines
uttered throughout the film. Having said that though, don't
expect this to be an exploitation masterpiece, and the title the film as a
whole never really lives up to its sensationalist title Test Tube
Babies - but up to a point it's at least pointless nostalgic fun.
