Because Lister (Craig Charles) went into one of the contaminated areas
of spaceship Red Dwarf, he catches pneumonia ... but not the regular kind
of pneumonia we all know & hate, but a mutated form that makes his
hallucinations come to life.
& after a bit of raining fish & a 16th century mayor of Warsaw
spontaneously combust, suddenly Lister is faced with his own confidence
(Craig Ferguson) & Paranoia (Lee Cornes) - & his confidence tells
him to look for the memory disc of Kachansky - Lister's secret love from 3
million years ago - & make her an after death hologram like Rimmer
(Chris Barrie). But Lister has hidden the discs away ... & outside the
ship too, as Rimmer soon figures. So Lister & Confidence decide to
step outside & retrieve the discs. But Confidence has developed a
nasty streak, he has killed Paranoia & has wrecked the ship's medical
unit - just to save his own life, actually, since he is a symptom of
Lister's pneumonia, & should Lister ever been healed ...
But outside, Confidence's own confidence gets teh better of him, when
he wants to persuade Lister to take off his spacesuit & to show him
it's alright, he takes of his ... & explodes.
Lister has retrieved the disc though, but when he puts it into the
ship's computer he realizes he has picked the wrong disc, it's not
Kachansky, but a second Rimmer ...
Some nice scenes, mainly of the characters bickering, cannot hide the
fact that the actual story of this episode is rather thin - it's rather
one reasonably good joke stretched to (beyond ?) its limits - &
underdeveloped, which results in a disappointing climax with Confidence
just blowing up. The actual ending with 2 Rimmers though is promising (see
the next episode Me² for a continuation).
